Brayton and Richardson Declared Champions for 2017 Australian Supercross Championship

The concluding round of the Australian Supercross Championship at Jimboomba, Queensland staged the title showdown with Penrite Honda Racing’s Justin Brayton and Serco Yamaha’s Jackson Richardson taking the SX1 and SX2 titles. Torrential rain at Jimboomba had turned the stadium into a challenge for the riders with muddy terrain.

SX1

The SX1 main was full of drama and excitement as the competitors battled for this year’s last round honors.

Justin Brayton rode cleverly and finished 5th for the round which was enough to secure the 2017 SX1 Australian Supercross Championship title, his second in succession. The tension was in the air as the competitors set off from the starting gate with Dan Reardon taking the lead early on. Brayton was clearly trying to ride safely to secure his title and was riding conservatively early on in the tricky conditions.

In the final laps, Nathan Crawford (Kawasaki) was showing sensational pace and challenging Wilson Coolair Motul Factory Suzuki’s Nick Schmidt for the victory. In the late stages of the race, Crawford managed to overtake Schmidt but unfortunately due to an incident in the whoops Crawford was unaware he was required to readdress his position. Although Crawford crossed the finish line in first, after a protest it was deemed that Crawford had gained an advantage and should have given the position to Schmidt. Crawford was relegated down two positions and Schmidt would claim the victory.

Schmidt; “I’m definitely excited. I felt good all day and coming in to the round we had a great week. We’ve had some bad luck so far this season but we managed to turn it all around. I got a decent start in the main event and I was sitting in fourth and I just put my head down and got to work. It was so muddy but I just kept picking off guys and making my way towards the lead. My mechanic just kept telling me to keep it on two wheels and I was determined to put Suzuki on the podium. A lot of crazy stuff went on after the race but the officials looked at it all and they ended up giving me the overall which is awesome.”

SX1 Champion Brayton played an intelligent race and managed to finish fifth to take the Championship and shared; “Tonight was the toughest Supercross race I think I have competed in; it was a matter of survival. Riders were crashing without warning so I needed to remind myself throughout the final that to win the Championship we needed to finish.” Brayton concluded.

Round Six – SX1 Jimboomba Results

SX2

The defending Champion, Jackson Richardson has managed to go back to back to secure the title at Jimboomba. A fourth-place finish would see Richardson secure the Championship. Taking the win was Jay Wilson, ahead of Chris Blose and Dylan Wills.

Richardson finished fourth to reclaim his title, ahead of Morgan Fogarty who finished off his maiden season with an impressive fifth place.

“The longer the race went on, the worse the track got but thankfully we were able to get it done and that’s all that matters in the end, Richardson said. “Thank you to everyone at Serco Yamaha for their support. We started the supercross season a bit behind the eight ball as I had just come off injury but we all kept working at it and we wound up with another championship tonight.” Richardson finished.

Following his first podium finish in two years at the AUS-X Open just one week ago, Wilson headed into the final event of the season high on confidence, finishing the last outing of the series with a perfect score card.

With Jimboomba absolutely drenched with rain throughout the weekend, riders were forced to contend with the wettest and muddiest conditions of the season, but 23-year-old Wilson adapted and proved that he’s the consummate professional indoors and outdoors.

Wilson qualified in the top position in the SX2 class on Saturday with a flying 58.667 lap time, then backed up his performance in his heat collecting the race win – but it was the main event which delivered Wilson and the Raceline Pirelli KTM team with a fairytale finish to 2017.

After holeshotting, Wilson charged to the SX2 final win, lapping up to fifth place and taking the race victory by a huge 51.291 seconds – simply unheard of in Supercross terms. With a strong finish at Jimboomba, Wilson also concluded the 2017 Australian Supercross series in third in the SX2 Championship standings.

Wilson; “Wow! The last round at Jimboomba was absolutely everything I’ve been working towards – we qualified fastest, won the heat race and the main event so we couldn’t have done any more,” Wilson explained. “My fiancé, my daughter, my brother and my mum were all here for this moment and I’m so proud that I could do this for them. The conditions were absolutely brutal – we had so much rain before we went racing but I just rode the track for what it was, stayed patient and made sure we got the starts that we needed to get the win.” He finished.

Jimboomba X Stadium to Host Grand Final Round of Australian Supercross Championship

After a huge kick-off to the 2017 Australian Supercross Championship last month, Jimboomba X Stadium in south-east Queensland is set to do it again when the popular venue plays host to the sixth and grand final round of the series on Saturday, November 18.

Once more the local Logan community and businesses will be throwing their support behind the spectacular event, which will feature the best Australian and American dirt bike racers fighting over the prestige and prizes that come with being crowned Australian champion.

The City of Logan Council weighed in with major sponsorship of last month’s Australian Supercross Championship opener and is doing so again for next month’s grand final.

Likewise Logan-based TFH Hire Services, which provides builders and contractors equipment hire services, is a major sponsor of both Jimboomba rounds, as is Logan Law, a local law services office that is keen to assist anyone who has ‘copped one in the bumper’.

Other local Logan businesses that have pledged their support of the Australian Supercross Championship final round include LED Light Group (light towers) and AE Group Civil & Mining (construction project management).

“Having strong local community and business support is vital to the staging of events of the stature of the Australian Supercross Championship,” explains Jimboomba X Stadium event organiser Scott Bannan.

“We’re extremely proud the City of Logan Council has been a longtime supporter of our events at Jimboomba X Stadium, as have many local businesses and organisations, while we have partnered with the #endalldv domestic violence campaign for both rounds.

“The opening round of the 2017 Australian Supercross Championship last month was a great success that drew a huge crowd of local south-east Queensland dirt bike fans and families and next month’s final round promises to be even bigger,” Bannan enthuses.

The local Logan businesses will join the 2017 Australian Supercross Championship series sponsors of round six – Motorex, Dunlop, Yamaha and KTM – to make the next Jimboomba X Stadium race another event to remember for supercross fans.

Round one of the Championship saw reigning number one plate holder, American supercross star Justin Brayton (Penrite Honda) bring the vocal Jimboomba crowd to its feet on his way to winning the premier SX1 final.

Behind the American ace, Australian motocross champion Dean Ferris (CDR Yamaha) and local Logan product and former multi-time Australian champion Daniel Reardon (Mega Fuels Monster Energy Kawasaki) fought it out for the podium placings.

In the SX2 final, USA-based Australian Hayden Mellross (DPH Motorsport Yamaha) took the win ahead of another American star, former Australian champion Gavin Faith (Penrite Honda), with Queensland youngster Mitch Evans (Serco Yamaha) completing the podium.

Rounds two through five of the 2017 Australian Supercross Championship will charge through venues in Bacchus Marsh (Victoria), Virginia (SA) and Homebush (NSW) over coming weeks, before the grand finale back at Jimboomba X Stadium on November 18.

Also joining the big-name stars on-track at Jimboomba will be Junior riders in the SX Junior Lites and SX Junior 85 classes, which this year have been granted Championship status by Motorcycling Australia to foster the next generation of Supercross champions.

Advance purchase tickets to the Jimboomba X Stadium final round of the 2017 Australian Supercross Championship – which will feature an afternoon Pit Party where fans can meet their favourite riders – are on-sale via the www.ticketbooth.com.au web site. General admission, Stadium seating and discounted Family Pass tickets are available.

After two huge debut Australian Supercross Championship events in 2015, Jimboomba in the Logan Shire of south-east Queensland is all set to roar into life once more when the high-flying two-wheel spectacle of the 2016 Australian Supercross Championship clicks top gear on Saturday night, September 17.

Jimboomba X-Stadium has been bestowed the honour of hosting the opening round of this year’s six-event Australian Supercross Championship and organiser Scott Bannan is pulling out all the stops to deliver fans a world-class event, recently announcing American Supercross star Davi Millsaps will be jetting Down Under to face off against Australia’s best at the Jimboomba meet.

“I am really looking forward to heading Down Under to take on all of Australia’s best riders in the Australian Supercross Championship opener,” enthuses Millsaps, who previously raced in Australia in 2009, when he finished second to Aussie superstar Chad Reed in the Brisbane round of the Super-X series.

“There are a lot of fast Australian riders, including Dan Reardon, Matt Moss and Kirk Gibbs, and I’m really looking forward to racing them at Jimboomba, which will be the only round of the Aussie Championship I will compete in, so I hope plenty of fans get out now and get their tickets to the event – it’s shaping up to be an awesome race.”

Millsaps, 28, is one of the USA’s most decorated dirt bike racers, being a former nine-time AMA National Amateur champion who then turned Pro in 2005 and went on to win an AMA Supercross Lites East Coast Championship and capture numerous AMA Supercross and Motocross Championship race wins and podium placings during an extensive career that has seen him enjoy factory-backed rides with Honda, Kawasaki, KTM, Suzuki and Yamaha.

This year Millsaps has been racing the Canadian MX Nationals Championship for the factory-backed KTM Canada Thor Racing team, where he currently leads the MX1 Championship standings (ahead of Aussie Yamaha rider Brett Metcalfe) after posting a dominant 1-1 result at the most recent seventh round in Nova Scotia.

The appearance of Millsaps at the Jimboomba X-Stadium kick-off to the 2016 Australian Supercross Championship gives the event a huge dose of added horsepower, which is sure to help see the popular venue, which is just 30 minutes from both the centre of Brisbane and the Gold Coast strip, filled to capacity, just as it was twice during last year’s Championship chase.

Defending SX1 Australian Supercross Champion Dan Reardon (CDR Yamaha) is racing to return to fitness for the September 17 Jimboomba X-Stadium event after recent knee surgery, and is determined to be on the grid to defend his number one plate.

But the classy Queensland veteran Reardon, who made a stunning return to racing from retirement last year, will not only face the added pressure of the presence of Millsaps on the Jimboomba grid, but will also confront the in-form trio of top Aussie racers Kirk Gibbs (KTM Motocross Racing), Dean Ferris (CDR Yamaha) and Todd Waters (Wilson Cool Air Motul Factory Suzuki), who are right now locked in mortal combat for the MX Nationals Australian MX1 Championship, which has two rounds to run at the end of this month.

With the SX2 Australian Supercross Championship set deliver a similarly stacked line-up of riders, along with fields of young gun Junior Cup racers, all of whom will compete on a Jimboomba X-Stadium track that this year will again feature an elevated start line and huge sand pit section, the September 17 Australian Supercross Championship opener is sure to be a night to remember.
